On Monday, July 14th, ten Assistance League of Bellingham volunteer members toured school gardens at Alderwood and Cordata elementary schools.
Sarah Wheatley, from Common Threads Farm, led the tour and explained how the gardens are planted and maintained. Sarah shared some of the learning strategies that CTF staff use in the gardens to help students understand how food is grown and harvested and to encourage them to eat and enjoy fruits and vegetables.
Eating Healthy, one of Assistance League of Bellingham’s six philanthropic programs, provides funds for kids to participate in school gardens organized by Common Threads Farm. The “Welcome to Our Garden” signs were donated by ALB.
