Philanthropic Programs

Operation School Bell®

Each year over 4,000 children from more than 200 local schools are given the opportunity to shop and select new school clothing at JCPenney. The event is funded, organized, and implemented by Assistance League of Omaha.

Operation Teen Parent

Teen parents in the Omaha Public School district are encouraged to complete their education and read to their children. Over 100 students from eight different high schools participate in this program and four $500 post-secondary scholarships are awarded.

Operation Bear Hug

Bears purchased are distributed to children in physical or emotional crisis situations through sixteen local hospitals and other emergency agencies. Over 700 bears per year have comforted children.

Assault Survivor Kits®

Kits are prepared containing new clothing and hygiene products for victims of rape and other forms of violence to eleven hospital emergency rooms and two abuse shelters in the Omaha area. Children’s items are also provided in a partnership with Project Harmony. Over 400 kits are distributed annually to hospital emergency rooms and shelters throughout the greater Omaha area.

Operation Literacy

Children’s books collected by Assistance League of Omaha are given to less fortunate youth to promote their literacy. Over 3,000 books are distributed through Operation School Bell, Operation Teen Parent, Operation Recovery, and several other Omaha area programs.

Operation Recovery

Assistance League volunteers provide life skills training, clothing vouchers from Assistance League of Omaha Thrift Shop, bus passes, incentives for achieved goals, and monthly programs of interest to the residents of Santa Monica, a residential treatment home for women recovering from alcohol and chemical dependency.
