President’s Message

Welcome, and thank you for visiting the chapter website of Assistance League® of San Luis Obispo County.

Our Board of Directors and member volunteers are quite proud of our comprehensive website – it represents who we are and what we do. We are an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation with no paid staff, of which we are extremely proud. This is truly unique in the nonprofit world. Our member volunteers total over 100 individuals who share in the joy of giving back to the communities within our County.

We are best known for our Operation School Bell® philanthropic program.  Operation School Bell provides new school-appropriate clothing to Kindergarten through 12th grade disadvantaged students in all ten school districts within the County. During this past school year, 2022-23, we clothed 2,388 students in need, and over 36,000 students in the 27 years of service to San Luis Obispo County.

Our Chapter is always encouraging interested individuals to join us as members who are interested in assisting the youth attending school in our County.  When joining Assistance League, you will meet like-minded people, make new acquaintances and friendships, work together towards a common good, and all while making a difference in the lives of students and families in our communities outside of our own family.

Also, we encourage you to visit our beautiful Thrift Store in downtown San Luis Obispo – 667A Marsh Street.  It is our main source of fundraising.  Significant funding is also raised through our yearly direct mail campaign, “Warm Your Heart…Clothe a Child”, grant writing, and donations received through our community friends. All funds raised stay within our County and support only our philanthropic programs.

Please continue to explore our website to learn more about our organization. We also want to encourage you to attend one of our monthly Membership Meetings. In addition, donations are continually welcome and of any amount.  You can donate  by check or online; simply click on any DONATE button on our site.  Thank you for partnering with Assistance League in making a difference.
