Philanthropic Programs

Operation School Bell®

Students in grades K – 8 in need of appropriate new school clothing are referred to Operation School Bell. Members help them select new clothing, including tops, pants, a jacket, a hygiene kit, a shoe voucher, socks and underwear, and at least one new book. Their smiles as they leave are as big as the bags they are carrying!

Kids Are Pretty Special

Working through Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Assistance League of Chaves County provides diapers and wipes to infants and toddlers removed from abusive homes.

Backpacks For Homeless

This program provides 50 backpacks filled with blankets, hats, gloves, soap, washcloth, sets of toiletries, and other items for homeless men and women who can pick them up at Harvest Ministries.

Adopt A Nursing Home

Seasonably themed monthly birthday parties and a Christmas party are hosted for Sunset Villa Care residents and friends by Assistance League members who bring cakes, beverages, and small gifts.

Museum Hosting

Assistance League members volunteer as hostesses at artist opening receptions at the Roswell Museum and Art Center.

Pass It On

Excess clothing and items are donated periodically from the Assistance League of Chaves County Thrift Shop to other nonprofit organizations who issue it free of cost to people in need, such as the Roswell Refuge for Battered Adults, JIREH, Lincoln County Christian Services, and The Starting Line.

Silver Belles

Coordinated by our Las Lianas Committee, this program honors senior girls selected by their high school personnel according to established criteria. The recipients are recognized in the local newspaper and introduced at an evening Las Lianas Committee meeting where they receive a certificate, a silver bell charm, and a tour of Operation School Bell facilities.

Assisteens® Programs

Assisteens serve the community through programs such as Ushering at the Roswell Symphony, Adopt a Family at Christmas/Valentines, Turkeys and Tortillas for Thanksgiving, Blankets For CASA, and Special Connections.
