Operation School Bell is Assistance League’s signature program. We support children in need by providing new school clothes to students attending elementary schools in the Coachella Valley. For many these are the first new clothes they have ever received.

With our help, students gain more confidence in their appearance, greater self-esteem and are more likely to attend and stay in school.

During the 2016-17 school year, we clothed almost 4,000 students in the Coachella Valley and we are on track to serve a similar number during the next school year.

“Thank you for the uniforms. I would wear them to sleep but I might get them dirty.”

“Thank you for the clothes. I feel so much better in new clothes. I feel proud.”

“Thank you for my school uniforms. I feel amazingly different. You made a difference in my life.”

Operation School Bell also promotes hygiene. Our chapter partners with school nurses to provide hygiene kits to elementary school students attending Growth and Development classes. During the 2016-2017 school year our chapter provided 5,900 hygiene kits to students.

“I really like all the things you put in the pack. I will definitely use the brush due to my tangly hair. The lotion helps a lot for my dry hands and the soap smells amazing. Everything in the pack is very useful to me…”

“Thank you for the packets. They helped me because I didn’t have my own comb or brush. I used the deodorant that you gave me. The shampoo helped because I did not have any…Everything was useful.”

In addition, we provide backpacks to incoming kindergartners in the Palm Springs Unified School District as their families complete school registration.
