CONNECT2019 – Call for Speakers

Thank you for your interest in presenting at CONNECT2019! We are excited to showcase our members’ expertise, best practices, and innovative ideas to advance Assistance League’s mission.

We are looking for well-developed, engaging, interactive sessions that address the content tracks and participant learning objectives on the following page. Breakout sessions vary in length from 45 to 60 minutes in length.

If you have an idea for a general or breakout session, please submit your proposal by 11:59 p.m. PT September 30, 2018. Session submissions should include a concise overview of:

  • Who will be facilitating your session, including information on and examples of speaking experience (if you have it)
  • Which of the content tracks outlined on page 2 will your session address
  • What topic best describes your proposal
  • A 200-word description of what you would share with fellow members in your session and how you would present it (e.g. panel discussion, roundtable, Q&A session, workshop, etc.)
  • A short bullet point list of three things participants would learn from your session

If you have more than one session idea, please submit a separate proposal for each topic.

Applicants will be notified of final sessions selected between November 15, 2018 and February 15, 2019. If your idea is selected, you will receive training and support to finalize your session and presentation materials. Final session materials will be due by June 15, 2019.

We want to hear from Assistance League members with different backgrounds, perspectives, and levels of experience within our organization. Any member with a session idea that aligns with the CONNECT2019 content themes and criteria outlined below can submit a proposal to present a workshop or breakout session.

Non-members and thought leaders from other organizations and sectors are welcome to apply with ideas that would serve our members and mission.

Presenting a session at CONNECT2019 provides Assistance League members with opportunities to:

  • Share expertise with other members
  • Develop presentation and leadership skills
  • Broaden influence within the Assistance League national membership
  • Support other chapters to succeed in their missions
  • Workshop session presenters will receive complimentary CONNECT2019 registration. Transportation and lodging will be at their own expense.

Assistance League is working with Davidoff Mission-Driven Business Strategy to create valuable, experiential content for CONNECT2019. Davidoff will evaluate all submitted proposals based on the following criteria:

  • Fit with the CONNECT2019 theme, “A Place to Think Big and Act Bold”
  • Clarity of learning objectives specifying what participants will take back to their own chapters
  • Applicability of learning objectives to chapters and members across Assistance League
  • Fit with one or more of the content tracks (listed below)

Chapter Management will help participants improve chapter operations by understanding best practicing and leading innovations from inside and outside of Assistance League.

Members will be able to select strategies and procedures to improve chapter operations and community impact.
Examples

  • Using technology to increase community
  • Strategies for successful fundraising
  • Real estate and property management

Personal Development will support participants to develop as change-agents and leaders in their chapters, professional lives, and personal lives.

Members will be able to recognize and develop their individual leadership skills to effectively serve their chapter and community.
Examples

  • Leadership excellence
  • Developing a mindset of continuous improvement
  • Social-emotional intelligence

Understanding Your Community will enable participants to accurately assess and effectively address community needs through nonprofit sector best practices.

Members will be able to utilize resources within their local environment to address community needs.
Examples

  • Understanding community resources for improving program impact
  • Trends in philanthropy and community service
  • Understanding how to talk about Assistance League’s unique structure and network

Connect and Share will help participants understand and leverage individual and chapter connections through in-person and digital networks.

Members will develop their abilities to leverage personal and chapter networks to advance Assistance League’s mission.
Examples

  • Communicating inside and outside of your chapter
  • Using social media, blogs, and websites for effective communication
  • Building relationships with companies and organizations in your community

Membership will provide participants with tools from across sectors for understanding and addressing barriers to membership growth, retention, and the development of future leaders.

Members will envision and create the “chapter of the future” by exploring tools for member recruitment, retention, and engagement.
Examples

  • Chapter growth
  • Successful strategies for developing future leaders in your chapter
  • Creating and maintaining a positive chapter culture
