Community Generosity Shines at Head Start Shopping Day

On April 13th, Assistance League of Georgetown Area held the last Operation School Bell® Head Start Shopping Day for the 2023-2024 fiscal year at Walmart. There was a great turnout, the children were adorable, and the parents expressed their appreciation for the new clothing their children received.

Sharron Dickerson, a member of Assistance League, shared a heartwarming story. “As we were getting ready for the day, a young lady approached us and asked if she could donate. We welcomed her donation and explained that we were there to provide clothing for Head Start students. She mentioned that Head Start had played a significant role in her childhood and that she had just completed her first year as a teacher at a Georgetown elementary school. She expressed her gratitude for the gift card she had received from our Assist a Teacher program, which helped her set up her classroom for the first day. It was incredibly touching to hear her story and feel her appreciation”.
