Making their stay a little more comfortable
SECU Family House is an overnight facility for out-of-town patients receiving medical care at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
The SECU (acronym for “State Employees Credit Union“) Family House at New Hanover Regional Medical Center offers support and lodging for family and friends of patients being cared for at NHRMC, as well as for patients who must travel to the area for outpatient medical treatment. Located just a short distance from the hospital’s main campus, the nonprofit SECU Family House asks for only $35 per room per night to offset costs. SECU sponsors several Family Houses across North Carolina, affiliated with major medical centers.
In Wilmington, the SECU Family House has been a “home away from home” for many in need since opening its doors as the Hospitality House in 1986. ALGW began caring for the gardens at Hospitality House in 2010 and later moved over to SECU Family House when it reopened in its new facility beside NHRMC Cardiology Center on Physician’s Drive. The Family house offers 24 standard guest rooms with two queen beds; private bathrooms; TV/Cable; indoor and outdoor children’s play areas; free Wi-Fi; full kitchen, vending and coffee bar; laundry facility; family living areas with books, games and puzzles; and a peaceful outdoor setting and walking trails.
Recently, our chapter presented the SECU HOUSE with 24 luggage racks, one for each of their guestrooms. These racks have been on their wish list since opening and offer greater convenience for guests.
Assistance League not only coordinates special dinners and events periodically for the guests throughout the year but also enhances the outside décor with flowers and containers throughout the property.
