Camera in hand, they filmed inside the Thrift Shop while on a mission to upgrade a recently purchased home on Oahu. Their trip as well as the home renovation and remodeling is featured on their June 23 videocast.

The segment on Assistance League showed Mrs. Kate looking and commenting on picture frames and other household products. Joey in the meantime found something to keep their child entertained. Assistance League of Hawaii Vice-President Mary Monohon who was working at the register that day got a chance to say a few words on their video.

The segment from the Assistance League of Hawaii portion of the episode starts at the 6:33 minute mark.

The entire video can be watched below. See where they used the stuff purchased from the Thrift Shop in their home. If you like home remodeling and decorating, be sure to subscribe to their channel if you haven’t done so.

Since its premiere in June, the episode has been seen by more than 417,960 times. The Mr. Kate videolog has more than 3.95 million subscribers.

The Kate’s visit and purchases were a great way for someone to help with Assistance League of Hawaii’s mission. The Kates also wanted to help out a local non-profit. To them we say “mahalo” and “thank you very much” for stopping by. Aloha!

Thrift Shop Expands Saturday Hours

Assistance League of Hawaii Thrift Shop announces expanded Saturday hours. Starting on Saturday, August 1, the Thrift Shop will be open at 9:30 a.m. and close at 3:00 p.m. There will be more time for you to shop and find that special treasure that you came in to look for.

We are also open on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Due to COVID-19, we ask for your help in keeping everyone safe and healthy.

  • Please wear a face mask while shopping; no entry will be allowed without a mask
  • If you are ill, please stay home and get well
  • Observe the social distancing markings throughout the store
  • You can bring your own reusable shopping bag, and bag your own purchases
  • Place your donations in our bins in the parking lot during open hours only

A Very Successful Thrift Shop Reopening (June 2)

Assistant League of Hawaii’s Thrift Shop had a very successful re-opening today (June 2) after being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic since March 18, 2020. Dozens of people were in line before the Thrift Shop opened.

The Thrift Shop glass door was shattered by a vandal two days before reopening.

Our member volunteers who worked as cashiers, donation and door monitors, and floor floaters were very thankful to be there helping our customers who waited for weeks for us to reopen.

The Thrift Shop was vandalized two days before reopening on Sunday morning. Someone smashed the glass door window to our entryway. Emergency repairs were made after a plywood slab was applied the area where the glass shattered. Our security cameras got images of the vandal and the case was turned over to the Honolulu Police Department.

Sales from our Thrift Shop helps fund our various charity programs including Operation School BellR, Operation Wildlife, OSB Literacy Services, Outreach, We Care and Share. Assistance League of Hawaii has helped many Hawaii students with reading, environmental awareness and school supplies.

The Thrift Shop is operating on a 4-hour, two-day-a-week schedule. We are open on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm. Masks are required for customers to be admitted. More details are in on our revised Thrift Shop guidelines.

Thanks to the member volunteers who made the opening happen: Ku’ulei Pai, Sheri Sunabe, Peggy Monell, Margie Van Swearingen, Joan Helbling, Mary Monohon, Nancy Sparcino, Sharon Ehrhorn, Gerri Migita, Shelton Higa, Aaron Awaya (with their crew for fixing the door) and Davin Preza.
