How exciting to imagine all 120 Assistance League chapters, made up of 22,000 members, collectively “Taking Action”
nationwide during Action Week 2023 (August 21st-25th).

EXTENDED TO SEPTEMBER 15TH!

LITERACY is Assistance League of Newport-Mesa’s focus for Action Week 2023.

Our Book Brigade, in partnership with Julie Vasi, NMUSD District Librarian, has identified two elementary school libraries in desperate need of books:  Wilson Elementary and California Elementary.  There are 4 ways for our members to Take Action starting this week (see attached flyer for more details):

  1. Individually collect and donate gently used books.
  2. Organize a book drive among family, friends and neighbors.
  3. Purchase books or bookmarks from the Amazon Wish List, created by NMUSD District Librarian, which identifies needed nonfiction and multi-lingual books as well as special scratch & sniff bookmarks that are used as fun incentives to encourage reading.
  4. Make a financial donation designated for “Action Week Literacy”. Our Chapter will be making a financial grant towards the purchase of basic supplies needed at both libraries.

Items can be shipped direct to NMUSD:
Attn: Julie Vasi, District Libarian
NMUSD
2985 Bear Street, Costa Mesa, CA 92626
Phone: 714-424-7563

Or can be dropped off in the Take Action Bins located outside of the Admin Office or in the Take Action Bin in the front of the Dental Center.
