Our Programs impact lives in our community

Our philanthropic programs are primarily funded by proceeds from our Thrift and Treasures on Consignment Shops, which are fully operated and staffed by our member volunteers.  Donated clothing, home goods, furniture, and decorative items are received, priced, stocked and sold by Assistance League volunteers.  Additional financial support comes from various annual fundraiser events, and grants and donations.

Operation School Bell®

Since 1992, Operation School Bell provides new uniforms, books and essentials at no cost to Newport-Mesa Unified School District elementary students of low-income families. In 2018, the program was expanded to include AL’S Closet using aged out clothing from our Thrift Shop.  Portable closets are available at select schools with non-uniform clothing for older elementary, middle and high school students at no cost.

Scholarship Program

Higher education  scholarships are awarded to deserving Newport-Mesa Unified School District seniors.  Applications and criteria will be available in February.

The Kids on the Block

The Kids on The Block puppet shows, presented by teen and adult members, consist of child-sized puppets who deliver lessons on social issues and nutrition. The puppet shows are shared at local schools and YMCA programs.
