Volunteer with Us!

April is National Volunteer Month as well as Earth Month, so it is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the Assistance League of Newport-Mesa!  Founded in 1940 as a charter chapter of the National Assistance League, this volunteer-led, non-profit organization operates resale stores and uses the proceeds to support children in need in the Newport Mesa school district.

The Thrift Store and Consignment Shop, called Treasures on Consignment, welcome donations and consignments from generous members of the community.  Donations to the Thrift Shop are sold to the public or donated directly to students in need through on-campus closets, emergency requests and back to school shopping events. Proceeds from both shops are used to support the on-site Cheri Harris Dental Center that provides low and no cost dental and orthodontia services, award higher education scholarships for graduating seniors, purchase uniforms for the elementary schools that require them and support other student-focused community programs.

The Assistance League of Newport-Mesa is proud to generate funds to support their programs through resale at their thrift and consignment stores.  Resale results in a tremendous reduction in waste production. Thrift shopping helps mitigate waste by giving clothes a second life. Each garment purchased second-hand is one less item heading to the landfill.  Consignment shopping supports conscious consumerism that also aims to protect the environment. As more and more consumers buy preloved items, the demand for manufacturing new products that ultimately deplete the earth’s natural resources and add to carbon emissions is reduced.

Help serve the community and save the planet by shopping at the Assistance League of Newport-Mesa Thrift and Consignment Stores!  Better yet, become a member!
