Assistance League of Palm Springs Desert Area is an all volunteer nonprofit organization that was chartered in 1978 as the 58th chapter of National Assistance League. The chapter identified unmet needs in the Coachella Valley, developed philanthropic programs to meet them, funded this work and ran the programs with member volunteers. While the needs and the programs have evolved over time, this is the way the chapter continues its mission today to help those in need within our valley. The chapter has no paid staff.
Current programs include:
- Senior Services, started in 1973
- Operation School Bell®, a national program but tailored to local needs, that began in 1991 but has recently been expanded.
- Community Outreach, launched in 2010 to provide one-time, noncash unexpected unmet needs in the community
- We Care: Focus on Military Families, launched in 2012
- Frank Moss Scholarship for the Arts, started in 2014
The Assistance League of Palm Springs Desert Area recently celebrated its 40th Anniversary and continues to be a major force in the Coachella Valley.
