Philanthropic Programs

Two New Grants Received

Assistance League recently received two new grants to further our philanthropic work. The Benevolent Fund of Cascades Presbyterian Church awarded $2500 for Assault Survivor Kits we place in the three local hospital emergency departments. The grant came just as one of the hospitals asked us to begin donating kits for men in addition to the ones for women and children…..

JUST because…

In partnership with the Department of Social and Health Services, our “JUST because…” program provides two sets of new clothing to children ages 10-18 when they are placed in foster care.

Operation School Bell

We provide new clothing and literacy supplies to children in need in 25 schools in Vancouver, Evergreen, Washougal and Woodland school districts. Member volunteers purchase requested items and deliver them to schools. During the pandemic, we have expanded our program to provide headsets, earbuds and styluses to children learning remotely, and family-friendly grocery gift cards to families facing food insecurity.

Assault Survivor Kits®

We provide clothing and hygiene kits for survivors of assault, both women and children, who arrive at the emergency rooms of PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center (Vancouver), Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital (Vancouver) and PeaceHealth St John’s Hospital (Longview).

My Life Story Books

We create handmade, fabric-covered binders that become memory albums for children in foster care as they move within the system or toward adoption.  In the books they can record their personal history, filling them with photographs, records and letters.

Children’s Opportunies & Potential

We work with Innovative Services Northwest to help children who have disabilities or other disadvantages reach their potential.  We provide financial scholarships, program supplies and skilled volunteer help in classrooms and therapeutic settings.
