Partnering with the Washington Department of Children, Youth and Families, our “JUST because…” program provides two sets of new clothing to children ages 10-18, when they are placed in foster care.

Last year, JUST because… has provided over 500 children who are entering foster care, ages 10 to 18 with NEW clothing and shoes. We partner with the Department of Social and Health Resources in reaching these families. We also coordinate a “Back to School” shopping experience in the late summer for approximately 120 children.

Testimonials

“I am going to be a senior in high school and now I can be styling my last year of school. Thank you so much!”

“I want to take a minute to say thank you for all the donations and support offered to my teenage client. She is 16 years old and brand new to foster care. She had been living with her paternal grandparents who were supplying her with meth and prostituting her out. She came to the Department with absolutely nothing. Her desire is to get clean of drugs, go back to school, which she had not attended since  8th grade, and learn to live a normal life. She was able to get brand new jeans, shirts, shoes, socks, and bras from the clothing closet. She was so excited and said she felt like a princess. This had a huge impact on her and she continues to be grateful and thankful. She plans to write her own thank-you not for that which she has received. As a Social worker, so many times when teens come into care, they have nothing, and in the past the Department had little to nothing to offer them. And now without access to any money for clothing, our kids would have nothing, so thank-you so much for the amazing impact that buying clothes for these kids makes.”
