• Donate Books For Action Week

Can you imagine 120 chapters and their 26,000 members gearing up to do a project together? The project is ACTION Week! It coincides with the birthday of our founder, Anne Banning, February 24th. During that week, chapters nationwide will celebrate the children we serve, collecting books and delivering them to agencies. This project donates thousands of volumes for children, many of whom have never had books of their own. The gifts are a sign that their community cares about them. So, during the week of February 24th, Assistance League Southwest Washington is collecting new children’s books to be distributed through Open House Ministries, the YWCA SafeChoice shelter, Innovative Services Northwest and Larch Mountain Correctional Facility. The inmates at Larch Mountain will select books to read aloud on videotape, and the tapes and the books will be sent to their children. Six businesses—one branch each of Washington Mutual, Umpqua and US Bank; Kazoodles Toy Store, Touchmark Retirement Center and Mill Creek Pub—will have donation boxes. Members are urged to take books to Mill Creek Pub for the February 3 Happy Hour or bring them to the February 20 chapter meeting. If you are willing to deliver donated books to one of the recipient programs, please contact Nancy Gaston. Facebook
