The happy, smiling children shown in the picture, Jordyn and Dupri Rodriguez, are among the 900 elementary school children in the Redlands Unified and Yucaipa/Calimesa school districts who are receiving $100 worth of new school clothes and shoes via Assistance League of Redlands’ philanthropic program, Operation School Bell.

The nonprofit organization works with the schools that identify families in need to participate in this program.

Children accompanied by parents or guardians started shopping on Sept. 15 at Kohl’s in Redlands to choose school-appropriate clothing and shoes. This fall session concludes on Oct. 25th. Member volunteers are on hand to check in the students, help them find the right size clothes or shoes, and ring up and bag purchases. Each child also receives a hygiene kit consisting of a toothbrush and paste, shampoo and soap. Information regarding our Thrift Shop and low cost Dental Center is given to the parents.

Funding for this program is provided primarily from Assistance League’s Thrift Shop located at 506 W. Colton Ave. New member volunteers are always needed.
