On May 12, 2016, Cindy Guerrieri was chosen along with two representatives from other nonprofits, to give a five-minute presentation to the 100 Women Who Care – Motown. The subject of the speech Cindy gave was Assistance League®of Southeastern Michigan and our signature program of Operation School Bell®, focusing on initiating a middle school shopping experience for students in Detroit. After hearing the three presentations, the group voted and Assistance League of Southeastern Michigan was chosen as the recipient of the award. The members of 100 Women each wrote a personal check for $100.

On June 7, 2016, checks totaling over $14,000, were presented at our warehouse from Karen Rashid-Barlow to Cindy Guerrieri, and Co-Chairs of Operation School Bell Rosemary Dirksen and Sani Dwyer.

In July, a portion of the gift provided 100 Middle School Students at the Children’s Center in Detroit with a new uniform top, pants, socks, underwear, hygiene kit, and book.

Additionally, a middle school shopping experience is being organized for two more schools in Detroit to provide school appropriate clothing and necessities that will help to boost self-esteem and pride in the students.
