Sierra Foothills – Successful Operation School Bell; Vera Doettling Receives Awards

Each Saturday, starting September 29th through the middle of November, 2019,  Assistance League of Sierra Foothills held Operation School Bell® shopping events.  This year the chapter supplied its highest numbers of elementary and middle school children with new school clothes – 1,064 children from 14 El Dorado County School Districts including South Lake Tahoe.  The amount spent for new clothes by the chapter was $86,478.  And, over 40 member volunteers and community volunteers helped these children shop.

At the chapter’s holiday luncheon, Vera Doettling was awarded both the Anne  Banning Leadership and Ada Edwards Laughlin awards due to her strong leadership and behind the scenes assistance in volunteering since 2012.  Vera has served as VP of Resource, VP of Philanthropy, Education Chairman, President-elect, President, and currently serves as Strategic Planning Chairman. She has been one of the Operation School Bell store leaders several times.  Vera has reached out to members in the community to help our chapter in so many ways; she has been a valuable mentor to current and future leaders in the chapter.  She also developed our Grant Program and Guidestar profile.  With her guidance, we are now at the Platinum Guidestar level.  Two of her favorite phrases are:  ” This too will pass” and “We will carry on.”  Congratulations, Vera Doettling!
