Tustin – Assisteens® Food Collection

Assisteens are a vibrant, thriving organization for high school students dedicated to volunteering in our community.  Teen volunteers donate service hours through philanthropic programs adopted by each grade level and community programs.

One of their programs provides assistance to the Orange County Rescue Mission, an organization helping the homeless in Orange County.  During a weekend project, the Assisteens gathered and donated 18 large barrels of food and 11 cases of water.  The food drive took place at four grocery retailers.  Over the weekend, the Assisteens manned each of the collection locations to receive donations from local residents.  More than half of the food barrels were filled on the first day, with the remaining barrels filled to capacity on the second!  Once the barrels were delivered to the Mission, it was determined that the amount of food collected was enough to feed 500 people.

Tustin’s Assisteen’s Philanthropic Chair said, “I was delighted to see so many altruistic people donate and bless the individuals and families at the O.C. Rescue Mission.
