San Luis Obispo County – Helps Kids Succeed

Assistance League of San Luis Obispo County conducted it’s final scheduled giveaway of school clothing and school supplies to disadvantaged students in Paso Robles. Early Saturday morning, the volunteers set up the Operation School Bell® booth outside Kohls. Students in the Paso Robles School District arrived with certificates that entitled them to choose school clothes and necessary school supplies at no cost.

The certificates are distributed to disadvantaged students and their families through school counselors, teachers, and school staff. Assistance League and educators believe giving the kids new school clothing, school backpacks and school supplies helps them feel more confident in the classroom.

At the February 25 School Board Meeting, Assistance League’s Charlene Ables told the Paso Robles District Trustees that her group had given more than $70,000 to disadvantaged children in the Paso Robles School District during the current academic year. The money is raised by Assistance League specifically for Operation School Bell. Ables says despite their generous efforts, many children who are living below the poverty level are not receiving their help.
