Back to School! Assistance League of Greater Placer members work all summer to provide backpacks and school supplies to children from grades Kindergarten through 12th grade. Our volunteers deliver these precious and needed school items to pre-designated Placer County locations working with Kids First in Roseville and Auburn and North Tahoe Family Resource Center in Tahoe. In addition, our school volunteers facilitate the delivery of items to local schools throughout Placer County, after receiving requests from school personnel.
“When the children arrive to choose the backpacks they desire and are given a box of school supplies,” says Committee Chairman Marysue Tiffany, “The expressions on their faces, especially the Kindergartners, first, second and third graders are priceless. Those faces make us volunteer to do this every year. It is so worthwhile.”
Assistance League members provided 2,400 children with new backpacks and school supplies
This is an outreach program that purchases new school supplies and backpacks for students who are referred by counselors in Placer County public schools orKidsFirst Center in Placer County. Each child is given the supplies needed according to his/her grade. Backpacks may also be provided if the student is in need.
Books of Our Own is an in-house program where we provide personal dictionaries to 3rd grade classrooms in our service area.
