The Assistance League of Greeley was chartered in 1973 as the 54th chapter of Assistance League.

Assistance League is a national organization.  Anne Banning and her co-founder Ada Edwards Laughlin founded the organization in California in 1919. Anne, Ada and a group of 12 friends saw the need to provide food and clothing for local families severely impacted by WWI. This has grown into a national organization of 120 chapters across America that address the emotional and physical needs of children and adults of all ages.

Greeley’s chapter started as an Assistance League Guild on May 15, 1970.  Nancy Waldo and four other visionaries were the driving force behind the beginning of our chapter.  Twenty-eight women became charter members. Each member donated $50 worth of merchandise monthly to sell at The General Store. Gradually, the guild solicited and received community donations or clothing and household merchandise.

We filed for, and received our charter as the Assistance League of Greeley on October 29, 1973.

Operating in several downtown locations until 2000, the chapter bought our current building  at 1706 9th Street in February.

Although ALG has supported other programs since its charter, our current signature philanthropic programs include:

  • Single parent scholarships – 1991
  • Warm Up Weld County – 1993
  • Assault Survivor Kits®- 1995
  • File of LIfe® – 2000
  • Operation School Bell® – 2004
  • Color Me Weld – 2017

Funding for programs comes from Bargain Box proceeds, grants and donations. All our programs help where no one else was helping at the time of development – Transforming Lives, Strengthening Community.
