2019 Garden of the Hills Tour

This year Assistance League® Sierra Foothills garden tour hosted 6 gardens and 2 specialty garden locations from Placerville to El Dorado Hills.  The gardens ranged from Asian inspired gardens with koi ponds, orchards of maple trees, succulent and cacti gardens, a French country estate with a babbling brook, goats and chickens,  a minimalist garden to demonstrate how to landscape with limited space, and a tranquil garden that boasted architectural features in contrast to vegetation.  There were 2 demonstration gardens, one hosted by Marina Village Middle School in El Dorado Hills with students from the school Garden Club conducting garden tours and presenting “What I Like About Gardening,” and the Sherwood Demonstration Garden in Placerville, UCCE Master Gardeners who educate the general public on sustainable horticulture and pest management.

And, new to the tour this year, the Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter Garden Tea Party.  A real hit with everyone who attended.  The stars of the Tea were costumed Alice in Wonderland characters:  The Mad Hatter (Dahn Kendall), two sisters; Alice (11-year old Elise Maxwell), Cheshire Cat (9-year old Emma Maxwell), the Red Queen of Hearts (Charlet Burcin), the White Queen (Alice Carpenteria and The White Rabbit (Lynn Mann).  All beautifully decorated as Alice’s wonderland of fantasy and included a scrumptious Tea with the menu items apply named from characters in the book.

Our thanks to the event sponsors, Marshall Medical Center, El Dorado Savings Bank, Serrano, Pottery World and Luxury Home Magazine.  We also want to thank the many local businesses who advertised in our brochure, our patrons for supporting our event and our members and community volunteers for making this event possible.
