East High School sophomore Grace Duffey [and granddaughter of a member] collected 1,185 books as part of the Wichita Assistance League’s “Make A Difference Day.”
The books were donated to the Assistance League in its partnership with USD 259’s Homeless Outreach Program.
“So I had a little over a month to collect all the books I wanted to collect,” said Duffey. “Last year I collected 170 and I said I want to do more. So my goal was 340, like double it. And then I went to my mom’s work and I already had 350 books, so I’m like ‘Oh, ok.'”
The Homeless Outreach Program currently serves 13,000 children in the Wichita area.
