Three times a year, members of Assistance League of Laguna Beach head to Costco and fill up a UHAUL truck with diapers and wipes, much to the surprise, no doubt of the cashiers. Then off they go to deliver them to the Camp Pendleton Marine Base.

Gayle Whitaker, president of Assistance League, and her husband Dick did the pickup and delivery on Wednesday, May 18 this year. Catherine Hall, philanthropic vice president, rendezvoused with volunteers at Camp Pendleton.

Dressed in their Thrift Shop aprons, the volunteers handed out diapers and wipes, benefiting more than 395 infants, toddlers, and their parents through this popular event.

Leftover diapers and wipes will be donated to the Laguna Beach Community Clinic.

This outreach was made possible from the proceeds of the Laguna Beach Assistance League Thrift Store, located at 526 Glenneyre close to downtown.

Donations of gently used clothing, household goods, small electronics and furniture are welcomed at the Thrift Store.

Assistance League is a volunteer organization whose members put caring and commitment into action through community-based philanthropic programs.
