Families who are preparing for the new school year with help from the Assistance League of Carlsbad and need help getting their students school supplies have a new option.
Backpacks containing grade appropriate supplies are available free of charge at the the United Way office, located at 116 S. Canyon St., said community resource manager of United Way Barbara Salmons.
The kids can pick up their backpacks from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Aug. 8 and Aug. 9.
Salmons said the funding for the backpacks is provided through the Community Impact fund and their title sponsor Mosaic Potash. Other sponsors include Western Commerce Bank, Nuclear Waste Partnership and the Carlsbad Heights Lions Club.
“The purpose is to make sure the kids start their first day of school with supplies,” said Linda Dodd, executive director of United Way.
People in the community can also donate $25, which will pay for a backpack full of supplies.
