flagstaffHere in Flagstaff, the Assistance League is making a difference every day in the lives of children as well as adults in need. This all volunteer nonprofit group runs the Cedar Closet Thrift Shop, where the proceeds earned are all donated right back into the community through various programs.

The Operation School Bell program clothes children identified through their schools with two complete new outfits including shoes, hygiene kits and a book. More than 1,400 children were helped last year, improving self esteem by pride in appearance. To donate to Clothes for Kids, making it possible to help even more children, pick up a form at the Cedar Closet.

Other programs Assistance League members support are Homeless Help, Kiddie Closet for infants, Assault Survivor Kits, Hug-a-Bear for children in emergency situations, thrift shop vouchers for those referred from social service agencies, a birthday celebration for nursing home residents, a social services directory that provides a resource guide for nonprofits and emergency services, and help for residents at Sharon Manor.

Assistance League’s main focus is children and now, kids who are shopping at the Cedar Closet with parents are invited to choose a free book. Cedar Closet Thrift Shop is located at 2919 N. West St. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Call 779-3029 for more information.
