Antelope Valley – Co-sponsors “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes”

The third annual Walk A Mile in Her Shoes event is presented locally by Antelope Valley Hospital in partnership with Antelope Valley College, Zonta Club of the Antelope Valley Area and Assistance League of Antelope Valley.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, an event that raises awareness about gender-based violence, will take place in Lancaster this Saturday, Sept. 10.

It’s happening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Antelope Valley College, Football Field Parking Lot, located at 3041 West Avenue K in Lancaster.

The third annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event will feature men walking a mile in high-heeled shoes around the Antelope Valley College campus, as a live demonstration of the old saying, “You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.”

“Violence affects the health of a community, and this event helps raise awareness of the collaborative efforts underway to help people when they need it most,” stated Mary Reina, director of the Antelope Valley Hospital’s Forensic Services Unit (FSU). “While Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is a fun event, it is meant to help people understand the devastating effects of violence and encourage people to come together to create a healthier community.”

The cost to register for the walk is $65, and registration includes a pair of red high heels[must be preordered] and a t-shirt. View a flyer for this event here.

While the primary purpose of the event is to raise awareness, proceeds will benefit the AVH FSU. The FSU assesses, documents, photographs and collects evidence on all cases presented to the hospital or referred by law enforcement. They also coordinate the medical/legal needs of victims and provide compassionate care to those who have experienced horrific crimes.
