Austin – Receives Kudos on its Waste Not Program

From a press release issued by Assistance League of Austin.

Assistance League of Austin donates T-shirts that cannot be sold in our THRIFT HOUSE to the Travis County Health and Human Services Department through our Waste Not Program.  The shirts are used by prisoners in Travis County to create tote bags that are given to local food pantries.  Assistance League received the following note from Joy Stallings, the Social Services Program Administrator of the agency.

I just wanted to share this email with you about the award that our T-Shirts program is receiving.  The State of Texas Alliance for Recycling (STAR) is presenting the Travis County T-Shirts for Hunger program with a first place award for Outstanding Recycling Partnership.  The STAR Environmental Leadership Awards presentation and ceremony will take place on October 18th as part of the Texas Recycling Summit.

We can’t thank you enough for all of the support we’ve received from you and the Assistance League.  Your organization is donating more t-shirts than anyone else, and y’all are keeping our food pantries supplies with the shopping bags we need to distribute food to people in need.  Thank you very, very much for your support.  Y’all are a very big part of what makes this program so successful.

Jay Stollings, Social Services Program Administrator
