Don’t pack away the grill or poolside entertainment just yet. Summer isn’t over if the Assistance League of Bakersfield has anything to say about it.
This September, the organization will be holding a tri-tip barbecue to raise money for the 60th anniversary of Operation School Bell®. The philanthropy helps provide clothing to local school children free of charge every new school year. Since its inception in 1956, the program has assisted more than 138,000 students throughout the community.
This year the program is partnering with local Targets to invite students and parents to shop for school-appropriate attire. Fittings for school uniforms are also included in the program.
But none of that would be possible without the community coming together for the organization’s annual barbecue fundraiser, according to the Assistance League’s Donna Chertok.
The fundraiser will take place Sept. 21 at 1924 Q St.
