Downey resident and civic leader Lois Buchanan has been named a California Woman of the Year.
Buchanan was chosen by Assemblymember Cristina Garcia to represent the state’s 58th Assembly District.
Lois Buchanan serves with numerous volunteer organizations including Assistance League of Downey.
With Assistance League, she works with the Assisteens® to deliver hand-knit blankets and prepared hygiene kits to patients at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. She has also coordinated city clean-ups to celebrate Keep America Beautiful Month.
She has been a Downey resident since 1963, and will celebrate her 60th wedding anniversary with her husband, Jim, on May 14.
