The El Paso Chapter of Assisteens® has experienced much success. The membership of 55, with an additional five graduate members at large have continued to focus on La Posada Home, where over a period of eleven months, Assisteens paid twenty- four visits complete with crafts, games, activities and treats to engage the children residing there. In addition to these visits, monthly service projects were planned to offer a variety of activities to the members, to expand their philanthropy and finally to increase their visibility in the community. These community activities were as follows:
July-Westside Rotary- 4th of July Parade
August-Back to School party at La Posada including hair cuts, new shoes, school supplies
September-Health Fair at La Posada including 5 basic screenings
October-Collection of children’s books for Make A Difference Day
November-Twelve Thanksgiving meals assembled and distributed to families in need
December-Christmas Party at Royal Estates
January-Two dinners served at Ronald McDonald House
February-“Senior Prom” held at Royal Estates
March-Easter Party at Memorial Park for children living in shelters
Kids Palooza-surveyed crowd, cleaned area, hosted an informational booth
April-Two dinners served at Ronald McDonald House
May-Participated in the Braden Aboud Walk to help others in the community
Assisteens also conducted four very successful fundraisers this year: Carino’s ($437), Barnes and Noble ($199), Chihuahua tickets ($1000) and Braden Aboud Walk ($750).
Ten Assisteens received the Presidential Service Award which requires a minimum of 100 volunteer hours in a year.
