Where can you make $689 an hour? Assistance League of Georgetown Area Thrift Shop! Sales during the first three days of reopening were $6,200. The shop reopened on a three hour per day, three day per week schedule on May 28. Shoppers lined up and braved the heat for a chance to find wonderful items.
The shop had been closed from March 13 until May 28 to comply with state social distancing requirements. From the first day of the quarantine, Assistance League members began planning for the reopening and researching safety procedures needed to protect our member volunteers and our customers. As the opening date neared, volunteers returned to the processing area and worked together while practicing appropriate social distancing.
During the first two weeks of operation, we were limited by state guidelines to 25% occupancy which meant that a total of only 18 persons, including volunteers and customers could be in the shop at any time. All customers and volunteers are required to wear masks while shopping or working in the shop. Hand sanitizer is available at the shop entrance and in the processing area.
Shoppers, donors and volunteers alike are all happy to see the “Open” sign in the window of the Thrift Shop.
