ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – Some St. Louis kids in need have new shoes and great memories thanks to a local charity group.
The Assistance League of St. Louis hosted Discovery Day at Saint Louis Zoo on Friday. A hundred students between kindergarten and fourth grade at Adams Elementary School participated.
The kids, who are from low-income families, all got new athletic shoes and got to see the zoo. They also had the chance to spend time with scholars and basketball players from Vashon High School.
The Assistance League gives out 3,500 pairs of shoes every year to young kids in need, courtesy of Shoe Carnival. The group also donates 3,500 school uniforms every year and makes major donations to four women’s shelters.
Friday marked the first time the Assistance League had ever held the shoe event at the zoo.
