The Assistance League of Laguna Beach  recently awarded a total of $25,000 in scholarships to five graduates of Laguna Beach High School.

Scholarship recipients are Michael Beu, Hannah Budroe, Marcus Gunell, Molly McMillen and Eden Young.  A first thank you has arrived from Eden who will be attending Loyola. She is planning on “…going into elementary education and child development…” and wants to “…help in impoverished areas in the states or internationally.” This summer she will be working with teens in Mumbai.

The selection committee evaluated applications based on GPA, test scores, financial need and community service.

The Assistance League has been giving scholarships for many years but this years’ amount exceeds all past awards. The scholarships are among many of the Assistance League’s philanthropic programs, all funded by sales of donated goods at the Assistance League Thrift Shop at 526 Glenneyre St.

The Assistance League accepts gently used clothing, household goods, books, toys, sports equipment, small furniture and cash donations to support their many community support programs.
