“Island Fantasy: British Isles Musical Invasion” was the theme of Assistance League of Long Beach annual fundraiser, on Oct. 9, at the Hotel Maya.
It was “A Hard Day’s Night” for Chairman Penny Wilds and her committee as they transformed the area with themed decorations. Notably were the 1960s-era records featured in the beautiful table centerpieces.
Entertainment was the showcase of the evening with unforgettable vocal stylings by “Kulayd.” The evening was filled with music of the era that carried through dinner and began with greetings by the Las Hermanas Auxiliary who encouraged bidding on the silent auction items.
Misty Wootten won the Grand Prize: a week in a countryside condo in Arundale, England and a $1,000 American Express gift card! Judie Lecesne received two JetBlue round trip tickets and a $500 American Express gift card. The Lucky Draw offered a Gift Card Tree, Tiffany gift certificate, a designer necklace and $500 cash.
Funds raised totaled more than $70,000 to support Assistance League of Long Beach’s philanthropic programs: Operation School Bell, Orthodontic Program, Kids on the Block, The Howard and Asian Art Collection, A La Carte, Assault Survivor Kit, Vocational Training, Mentoring, Scholarships and Adopt A Family.
