On February 8, more than two dozen members attended the Rick Racker Woman of the Year Luncheon at Old Ranch Country Club, inducting past Rotary President Jane Netherton as the 2020 Woman of the Year. She was inducted for her support of not only Rotary philanthropies but also of many Long Beach charitable endeavors. These included: Long Beach Special Olympics, serving as chairwoman of the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, founding member of the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach, chairman of the Board of Governors for CSULB and the United Way Community Board. Jane also helped establish the Conservation Corps.
Rick Rackers, an auxiliary of Assistance League of Long Beach, have been honoring Long Beach women volunteers for 65 years at its annual event. Jane is not the first Long Beach Rotarian to be selected: She joins an exclusive group, including former Mayor Beverly O’Neill, Jean Bixby Smith, Jill Rosenberg and Tammy Newland.
