Montgomery County – Assistance League Celebrates in 2020!

Celebrating together during the Christmas season has always been a big hit for Assistance League of Montgomery County.  Typically we meet at a restaurant and have a brunch/luncheon with entertainment, and few special presentations.  This year the Member Activity Committee along with the Membership Committee decided we would meet at the Thrift Shop, and involve our members in a variety of opportunities.

Different areas of the shop were transformed into Santa’s cookie shop (for cookie exchange); Santa’s post office (we signed cards to mail to members who have been ill and/or unable to get out of the house); Santa’s workshop where we collected socks, gloves, toiletries for Assault Survivor Kits, Caring and Sharing; Santa’s Passports where members could receive the Passport for Success; Santa’s wishes and special memories where members wrote notes for others to read; Santa’s holiday market for a silent auction.  Santa also collected children’s books for our OSB Literacy project!

Santa and some of his elves celebrated on December 7 at our come and go event! These folks were masked all day except for this lovely picture. So good to see all their smiles!

It’s true, it’s true, when Gale gave out the call,

Christmas 2020 will be one we all will recall.

The cookies, the wassail, and the good cheer,

Of seeing each other during such a strange year!

As Santa circled the building, his sleigh full of stuff,

The elves shouted, “There is more than enough!”

Then Santa called out to all with delight,

“Merry Christmas ALMC! Thank you & good night!”
