Operation School Bell® is in high gear in Montgomery County! Thousands of students who attend Montgomery County schools, elementary through high school, have started shopping for new clothes during the new school year. This year, Assistance League Montgomery County will reach a new total, 60,000 students dressed since the program began 30 years ago!

Students who participate in the program are recommended by their school counselors who identify the student’s need. Vouchers are then issued, redeemable at stores partnering with Assistance League. These include Kohl’s, Walmart, Burlington, and JC Penney.

Understanding that new clothes are needed throughout the year, Operation School Bell dresses students all year long. When the program began in 1988, 33 students received clothing. In 2006, all public schools in Montgomery County were invited to participate. During the 2017-2018 school year, over 4,000 students received new clothes by participating in the program. One student shopper said, “I’ve never had new clothes before; don’t I look good?” Another commented, “My clothes are always worn out; your program is a blessing. I am so unbelievably grateful!”
