Norman – Receives Walmart Foundation Grant for Operation School Bell

OKLAHOMA CITY (Jan. 10, 2018) – New grant money will give four nonprofits extra help in their missions to support low-income Oklahomans.

Walmart hosted a check presentation today to award $125,000 in grants from the Walmart Foundation to four central Oklahoma nonprofits. These grants will boost organizations focused on providing people in need with coldweather clothing, dental care, and food and diapers for infants.

“Assistance League Norman relies on the dedication of its members and the generosity of our community to reach its goal each year of clothing 1,700 Norman and Little Axe Public School students,” said Kris Abbey, president of Assistance League Norman. “We are most grateful to the Walmart Foundation and the Oklahoma State Giving Advisory Council for partnering with us to accomplish our mission.”

The following organizations received a grant: • Assistance League of Norman will receive $25,000 to purchase new, durable and weather-appropriate clothing for low-income children in Norman and Little Axe public schools. • Dentists for the Disabled and Elderly in Need of Treatment (D-DENT) will receive $30,000 for lab bills and qualified staff to give patients free restorative dental care. • Good Shepherd Ministries of Oklahoma will receive $35,000 to provide dental extractions for lowincome and uninsured families. • Infant Crisis Services will receive $35,000 to purchase baby formula, food and diapers for central Oklahoma babies in crisis.

Infant Crisis Services’ Executive Director and Co-Founder, Miki Farris said, “We are so incredibly grateful to the Walmart Foundation for this incredible gift. These dollars help ensure that babies and toddlers in Oklahoma County and surrounding areas have access to proper nutrition and dry diapers.”

The Walmart Foundation supports organizations by awarding grants that have a long-lasting, positive impact on communities across the U.S.

“We’re honored to play our part in supporting nonprofit organizations striving to strengthen the communities they serve,” said Kyle Weaver, Walmart market manager. “Each of these organizations demonstrates unwavering
dedication to their community, and we look forward to seeing how they can further assist Oklahoma residents with a Walmart Foundation grant.”

To be considered for support, applicants must have a current 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Additional information about the program’s funding guidelines and application process are available online at www.walmartfoundation.org.
