RECORD-BREAKING TURNOUT! We kicked off our 2016-17 WEEKEND FOOD FOR KIDS PROGRAM on September 15 at Dominion Resources in Herndon, VA.

We are grateful to the 87 volunteers from Assistance League of Northern Virginia, Dominion and the community who donated their time to help feed children living in food-insecure households.

Each month during the school year, we invite the community to help us pack 1,500 bags of nonperishable food for children most in need in our community. Volunteers from the Rotary Club of Dunn Loring and corporate volunteer groups from RBH Global Wealth Partners and Reston Complex – Westin Heights & Sheraton Reston Hotel also contributed to the success of our kickoff event. As in previous months, Intelsat employees held a packing event at their facility at Tysons and generously donated 150 bags of food to our Operation School Bell® program.

Immediately following the packing event, food packages were transported and delivered by Dominion and Assistance League volunteers to six recipient Title I schools in Fairfax and Prince William Counties and the City of Alexandria. Dominion’s financial and hands-on support has enabled us to expand this critical program. Last year, our Weekend Food for Kids program provided over 13,500 bags of nonperishable food to hungry children. #weekendfoodforkids! #alcommunityoutreach
