Redlands – Hosting 10th “It’s All About Tea” Fundraiser

The Assistance League of Redlands invites the community to the 10th anniversary of its tea party fundraiser, “It’s All About Tea,” to be held October 29th at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 1551 Reservoir Road, Redlands.

Doors will open at 11 a.m., and before lunch, attendees can vote for their favorite tea tables, decorated by Assistance League members and friends. Some tables will be set with fine china, silver, glassware and fresh flowers in typical English style. Others may follow a whimsical or holiday theme. Songs, nursery rhymes or games may be themes for other tables.

At noon, a high tea luncheon will be served, with tea, scones, lemon curd and clotted cream, finger sandwiches and a variety of sweet desserts.

During tea, Dress Barn will present a casual fashion show.

Honorees this year will Mary Duke Ramsey and Shirley Arledge, the Assistance League members who planned the League’s inaugural “It’s All About Tea” event. When the Assistance League of Redlands was looking for a new way to raise funds to support its philanthropies, Ramsey and Arledge, longtime friends through their husbands’ service in the military, stepped up and planned the event. The tea party has grown over the past 10 years so that the room is filled to capacity.

Tickets cost $55, and reservations may be made by calling Dee at 951-313-4559 or Leslie at 909-633-5332. Those who make reservations by October 8th will be entered in a drawing for a $150 Trader Joe’s gift certificate.

Tickets are also available for five opportunity prizes, including gift cards to several restaurants, valued at $500; a Nordstrom gift certificate for $500; and four one-day passes to Disneyland.

There will also be drawings for theme baskets.

Proceeds help to fund the philanthropies of Assistance League of Redlands, which has been raising funds to provide services in the community since the 1930s.

The Assistance League has a year-round Dental Center providing low-cost dental services to low-income children and adults. Volunteers also screen Kindergartners in Redlands schools for evidence of dental problems.

In the fall and spring, the Operation School Bell® program, in conjunction with Kohl’s, provides school clothes for elementary school children from low-income families in the Redlands and Yucaipa-Calimesa school districts.

The Assistance League’s Assault Survivor Kits® help victims of assault by providing clothing when the victim’s clothing is retained for evidence. Every April, the Assistance League provides a recognition and awards luncheon for students and teachers in the adapted physical education classes in the school district.
