Reno-Sparks – Selected as Top Statewide Volunteer Organization

Assistance League of Reno-Sparks has been selected as one of three finalists for the Nevada Governor’s Points of Light award in the Nonprofit and Community Organization Volunteer Program category. This award, inaugurated in October of 2001, celebrates the extraordinary volunteer efforts of Nevadans.

“As the only nonprofit organization to be honored in Northern Nevada, we’re very proud of what our all-volunteer group has been able to achieve for children, seniors, veterans, and victims of abuse,” stated Sue Boon, Assistance League of Reno-Sparks president.

The largest program supported by Assistance League provides new clothing and uniform shirts to over 10,800 Washoe County School District K-8 students. Assistance League also provides classroom teachers with monetary awards that impact over 13,000 students.

The Veterans Outreach program provides male and female veterans with clothing, bus passes, grooming supplies and other items requested by the VA.

Assistance League Food Pantry provides groceries to over 360 seniors each month, including deliveries to homebound seniors.

Assistance League of Reno-Sparks is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization devoted to helping those in need within our community. The organization’s Thrift Shop and chapter offices are located at 1701 Vassar Street, Reno, NV 89502. See www.renosparks.assistanceleague.org for more information.
