San Antonio – Camp VIBE at Assistance League

Assistance League of San Antonio is pleased to provide a venue for Camp VIBE (Vocational and Independence Building Experiences), a camp focused on providing visually impaired children and teens with opportunities that will help prepare them for the vocational world. On July 21, 2015, fourteen (14) students, aged 14-17 with varying degrees of vision loss and including three braille readers, assisted our member volunteers in Operation School Bell®. The campers applied chapter identifying stickers to brand new books and filled school supply boxes – both of which will be given, along with a hygiene kit and two outfits of brand new clothing – to our Operation School Bell children beginning in September.

Camp VIBE is sponsored by the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services/Division for Blind Services and Education Service Center, Region 20. The camp helps the children and teens to be able to talk about their condition with others, build social skills in different situations, to begin to prepare résumés, and practice independent living skills.
