San Luis Obispo – Receives Grant from The Community Foundation of San Luis Obispo County

Assistance League of San Luis Obispo County was among 30 recipients to receive a $5,000 grant from The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County (CFSLOCO). The grant will be used toward purchasing new school-appropriate clothing for kindergarten through 12th grade students in need, living and attending school in San Luis Obispo County.

This year’s grant-making program received the support of the foundation’s Community Endowment and many donor funds held at the foundation. In 16 years, the CFSLOCO has given out more than $28 million in grants to assist nonprofit agencies. For more information on the CFSLOCO or any funds, call 543-2323, or log onto cfsloco.org.

At the beginning of each school year, Assistance League’s member volunteers meet with school personnel to issue clothing referrals. The goal is to provide school clothing to 1,600 disadvantaged students as they begin the next school year. However, Operation School Bell continues throughout the school year to serve as many students in need as possible.

Assistance League is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering academic success by boosting self-esteem and improving the lives of children within the local communities in San Luis Obispo County. To date, Assistance League members working closely with all 10 school districts in the county have provided new, school-appropriate clothing to more than 23,000 local students.
