Southeastern Michigan – Raises $120,000 for Programs at Mistletoe Market

The generous holiday spirit shared in a single day helps provide funds to continue critical philanthropic programs for the entire year. The Assistance League of Southeastern Michigan raised more than $120,000 at its 13th Annual Mistletoe Marketplace Fundraiser, held November 17, 2016, at the Palazzo Grande Banquet and Event Center in Shelby Township. It is fitting that the event is named for mistletoe, the symbol of love, as Assistance League volunteers demonstrate outstanding compassion and ongoing love for fellow citizens and neighbors in need.

Nearly 800 guests enjoyed exhibitor displays, silent auctions, live auctions, a strolling fashion show, lunch and raffles-all to support programs that clothe, feed, educate and comfort infants, children, adults, families and seniors in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

Honorary Chairperson Lori Pinson of FOX 2 shared her heartfelt personal experience, helping students choose warm coats and clothing as part of Operation School Bell®, one of Assistance League’s signature programs.

Guest speaker, Tiffany Piggee’-Taylor, owner of ME Beauty Studio in Rochester, shared her journey of recovery as a survivor of sexual assault. She recalled the importance of the Assault Survivor Kit she received in the hospital from Assistance League in 2003. A proud Assistance League supporter, Piggee’-Taylor has sponsored a panty drive the past two years, collecting more than 5,600 pairs of panties and $1,500 for Assault Survivor Kits.

Assistance League President Marjorie DiLiddo said, “We are an all-volunteer organization whose members have the heart to serve others, with nothing in return but a child’s smile.”
