RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The Assistance League of the Triangle Area is in the business of helping people realize their dreams.

On Thursday, the organization handed out scholarships totaling $137,500 during a luncheon at the N.C. State University Club in Raleigh.

CBS North Carolina showcased the Assistance League of the Triangle Area in our 3-Degree Guarantee segment. Our weather team, featuring Chief Meteorologist Wes Hohenstein and Meteorologist Bill Reh, accurately predicted the forecast within three degrees for 30 days raising $2,600 for the organization.

On Thursday, 27 students from high schools and colleges across North Carolina received the awards.

They plan to pursue various fields of study, including medicine, engineering, design, social work and cancer research. The talented group of scholarship winners share a common passion and purpose in that they believe great success is achieved by giving back to the community.

That’s also a core belief of the Assistance League of the Triangle Area, where dedicated volunteers are the driving force behind the non-profit organization.

Their programs also include Operation School Bell which provided nearly  2,000 children in Wake, Durham and Orange counties with new clothes, shoes, school and health supplies;  Women In Need (WIN) Community Sharing; and enriching the lives of senior citizens through the Senior Multi-Interest Lifetime Enrichment (SMILE) program.
