Kansas City – Benefits from Sock Sales

A popular sock company is helping a local nonprofit with a huge donation. You’ve probably seen the commercials for Bombas, touting the most comfortable socks in the world and saying, “for every pair we sell, we donate a pair to someone in need.” They’re keeping that promise, and  Assistance League of Kansas City is benefiting.

“It was so exciting to hear because any time you can partner with a big-name company and you’re the recipient, it’s a wonderful feeling,” said volunteer Karen Mollohan who oversees philanthropic programs for Assistance League of Kansas City. The nonprofit is based in the Northland but provides a variety of services to those in need all over the metro. “Our theme is transforming lives, strengthening community,” said Mollohan.

The size of the donation knocked their socks off. “When I applied I was thinking ‘oh, wouldn’t it be great if we got one or two hundred pairs,’’ said Becky Clark, Grants Chairman. “And then when they replied and said ‘you will get four thousand pairs of socks’, I was jumping out of my chair.”

The socks will go to three Assistance League programs: Operation School Bell® which provides clothing to elementary students in need, senior outreach, and sexual assault survivor kits.

“Children, many times when they come into Operation School Bell, don’t even have socks on,” said Clark. Bombas is helping to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Assistance League of Kansas City plans to continue to work with Bombas in the future. If you would like to donate to the Assistance League, click here.
