In Montgomery County, Assistance League in ACTION! Week is all about putting more books into the hands of children in order to improve literacy.  Assistance League Montgomery County kicked off the week with a Literacy Luncheon that raised over $5,000. for school children in Montgomery County.

The audience at the luncheon was treated to a presentation by best-selling author and Assistance League volunteer, Linda Rios Brook, who described her literacy journey and the inspiration that led her to write 9 books, including the best-selling fiction series, Reluctant Demon Diaries and Lucifer’s War. Linda’s thought-provoking presentation was given a standing ovation by those in attendance.

The generosity of the attendees and our sponsors, including Woodforest Bank, will help to provide new books for needy children in the county who may never have owned a book before. Assistance League volunteers who are members of Operation School Bell® will continue supporting literacy by engaging in activities designed to inspire young readers. They visit schools, read to children, and present them with books. Recently several volunteers visited Reaves Elementary in Conroe where over 450 books were donated to classroom libraries.
